Ru Huang is a classically-trained professional singer who is recognized as a versatile and flexible singer in diverse genres. She is a passionate and inquisitive explorer in discovering her music journey. Huang's performances appearances include Mozart's Requiem, Handel's Messiah, Britten's the Turn of the Screw, Mozart's Opera The Marriage of Figaro, contemporary chamber music, Illinois Modern Ensemble soloist, Cross the Ocean Ensemble soloist, Great American Songbook concerts, Stanford Gospel Fest soloist and many more.

 

Ms. Huang is currently a Doctorate candidate in Vocal Arts Performance and Literature at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She teaches Classical, Musical Theatre and Contemporary Commercial Music voice. In addition to professional studies in classical voice, she is a contemporary music specialist and is flexible to sing and teach within different styles. She has taught voice for over 5 years. From 2022-2023, Huang taught voice full-time at Western Illinois University. She has also taught at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Illinois Community Academy. 

 

In 2020, Huang received her Master in Vocal Arts and Opera Performance from University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA. She received her BA with Distinction from Central China Normal University in Wuhan, China in 2018, where she studied music education principles, applied voice and instrument (Erhu) study. She has learned advanced vocology, vocal pedagogy from voice researchers to guide her teaching focus. In 2024, She has completed level 1 in Somatic Voicework with Jeanie LoVetri. In 2023, she has completed level 1 and level 2 training in Estill Voice Training. 

Ms. Huang is also a concert/musical theatre/ opera producer, director, project manager, contemporary Erhu player, cross-cultural performance experimentalist. Her interdisciplinary cross-cultural project could be viewed from Illinois Spurlock Museum digital archive.
